The Pioneers were dominant in their home opener against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, winning 31-13. Lewis and Clark out played Pomona-Pitzer in every aspect of the game. The Pioneer dfense held the Sagehens to 251 yards of total offense, forced 4 turnovers, 5 tackles for a loss, and 2 sacks.
The Pioneer offense was just as dominant. The offense out gained Pomona-Pitzer by 117 yards and had great ball control, only turning the ball over once.
Every healthy player saw action yesterday against the Sagehens!
Notable Performances:
Offense:
Jacob Costantino led the Pioneers with 102 yards receiving on 5 receptions and scored his first collegiate TD.
QB Keith Welch went 11-18 passing for 189 yards and 2 TDs, along with 69 yards rushing and another 2 TDs on the ground.
Defense:
Senior Lamar Curry led the Pioneers on defense with 7 tackles and an interception.
Joe Kopp added another 6 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and a pass break up.
Sophomore Josh Cena had a huge day recording 2 interceptions for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers host Macalester College (3-0) from Minnesota next Saturday. Come support your Pioneers as one of these teams will end the game with their first loss of the season!
